In a recent development regarding the Banastarim accident case, the President of the Goa Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Adv Amit Palekar, has been arrested by the Crime Branch. The accident tragically claimed the lives of three individuals and left three others critically injured, who are currently receiving treatment at GMC.
Amit Palekar’s arrest has been linked to suspicions of his involvement in the accident. Upon his arrest, Palekar vehemently denied any connection to the incident and accused the BJP of engaging in what he termed “dirty politics.” He claimed that he was being unfairly targeted due to his decision to not join the BJP party. Palekar went on to state that his arrest was a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation and labelled it as a form of political manipulation.
The investigation into the accident took an intriguing turn as Palekar allegedly attempted to mislead authorities by presenting a dummy driver. This further fueled suspicions about his role in the incident.
Adding to the complexity, the High Court of Bombay at Goa recently granted conditional bail to Shripad alias Paresh Sinai Sawardekar, the accused driver in the Banastarim accident case. The accident, which resulted in the loss of three lives and injury to three others, prompted the court to impose strict conditions on Sawardekar’s bail. These conditions include a personal bail bond of Rs one lakh, regular appearances before the investigating officer, cooperation in the investigation, and refraining from tampering with evidence or leaving the state without trial court permission.
The Banastarim accident case continues to be a matter of significant public interest, with political undertones and legal intricacies capturing the attention of Goa’s residents. The unfolding events highlight the intersection of politics, law, and justice in the state.
