Banastarim Bazaar will be shifted to new market complex from Sept 27

PANJIM: The famous two-day weekly Banastarim Bazaar will now be shifted to the new market complex from September 27.

The local authorities have allotted places for Goan vendors inside the new market, while the vegetables, fruits and cloth vendors have been allotted places outside the complex.

Speaking to mediapersons, Vhoma-Adcolna Sarpanch Damodar Naik said that while allocating spaces, he has tried his best to ensure that injustice is not meted out to Goan vendors.

“Full slots have been reserved for Goan vendors. Others will be kept out. I have not taken a single rupee for allotting the spaces. Only those, who have been selling vegetables for years have been allocated space here. This market is for Goans,” Naik asserted.

The Sarpanch however, said if any local vendor is left out, he will surely arrange a place for him inside the new market. “I have been asked by Minister Govind Gaude to shift the Banastarim Bazaar to the new spacious market,” he said.

The Rs 18-crore new Banastarim market complex built by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant last month. The building has 54 shops and separate spaces for vegetable, fish and meat vendors. The capacity of the community hall, which has a library on the first floor, is 450 people besides parking area in the basement.
