Bandora & Dhavali: Rampant digging sinks water supply to locals

PONDA: It’s been almost a week since parts of Bandora and Dhavali villages are facing water shortage due to irregular water supply, even as the PWD officials promised to solve the water crisis.

But on the ground, they are in the dark and yet to find the faults that are causing water shortages. However officials working on damaged water lines, said that the water supply will be restored in the affected areas by Wednesday

The PWD employees are seen repairing water pipelines, which have been damaged due to road digging for various development works.

The locals and also the PWD Officials suspect that the problem has been caused due to frequent road digging for completing pending work on laying sewerage lines and power cables.

This is not first time such a problem has erupted in Ponda. This has been prevailing near residential areas at Old office of RTO, near Parshuram Nagar, Shapur and other parts of Bandora. The residents near old RTO office said they have been facing water crisis for past two months now.

The locals have also demanded better coordination between sewerage, electricity and PWD officials when road digging is undertaken for development works, so that water pipelines are not damaged.

Few days ago due to road digging, not only water lines were damaged by sewerage contractor, but also high tension underground power cables were damaged, causing power outage in Dhavali.

Meanwhile, a couple of days ago, Power Minister Sudin Dhavlikar had filed complaint against one Junior Engineer of PWD for tampering with water pipeline valve, causing water shortage in parts of Bandora for a week.

Inconsistent water supply frustrates Arambol residents

Team Herald

ARAMBOL: Arambol locals are exasperated as the water supply to them through water

tankers have been cut short, while the supply through tap remains frustratingly inconsistent.

The expiration of the contract has been cited as the reason behind supply stoppage.

Locals said that people from Madlawada and Bamanbhati struggled to receive

sufficient tap water and so, they approached the PWD officials who arranged

water tankers for the locals. However, there has been no supply from

tankers over the last few days.

“Despite insufficient water supply, residents pay the water bills on time every month. Although the government is banging drums about Har Ghar Jal, it is a farce. The departments concerned need to accept their responsibilities,” said a local.
