PONDA: A nine-hour marathon Bandora Gram Sabha witnessed heated arguments as residents demanded the resignation of the Panchayat body for failing to act in the interest of the villagers.
The meet began at around 10 am and it was brought to a standstill for nearly two hours as the panchayat body failed to reply to a query on a controversial building in the village.
The meet resumed after a lunch break at about 3 pm with an assurance from Sarpanch Sulaksha Naik who stated that the occupancy certificate would not be issued to the building.
The issue of Bandora communidade land also came up for discussion, with villagers accusing the Panchayat body of supporting illegalities.
They sought to know why had the Panchayat failed to act on complaints by villagers and even when the property developer did not obtain any permissions from the Panchayat.
While Sarpanch Sulkasha Naik admitted that a road in the area is illegal, she did not make any assured to demolish the road. A resolution was later passed by the villagers to demolish the approach road at Farmagudi and only then would they hold the next gram-sabha.
It may be recalled that villagers have been agitating since the last three years over the issue of Bandora commuindade land. Villagers claimed that the land is grazing ground and is being illegally developed for residential projects.
