PONDA: Protesting the “injustice” done to Bandora by the government, the panchayat members and Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar boycotted the official Shivjayanti programme on Wednesday morning.
However, Sudin, his brother and MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar, Bandora Sarpanch Ramchandra Naik, Kavlem Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar, ZP member Chitra Fadte and others separately celebrated the occasion by garlanding the statue of the Maratha King at Shivaji Fort.
Speaking to media, Dhavalikar said that since 1973, the Information Department and Bandora Panchayat used to jointly organise programmes and celebrate the Shivjayanti.
“Even former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar used to give due regard for Bandora Panchayat. But for the first time, the Information Department sidelined the Bandora Panchayat. Therefore, I too supported the panchayat by boycotting the official Shivjayanti programme. However, without disturbing the official function, we celebrated Shivjayanti separately,” he said.
