Bankers slam demonetisation

Say instead of curbing black money, the move has led to financial chaos across the country

PANJIM: All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-led Central government over demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 100 notes, saying that the move instead of curbing black money has led to financial chaos across the country.
The Association, has also slammed Government’s move to go “cashless” stating that country like India, which is still on developing front, will not be able to handle the cashless transactions.
“By simply banning some currency you cannot weed out black money. Government is well verse on the issue where the black money is and with whom it lies. The source of black money is also known; still the Modi government is running after “cat” instead of catching the “tiger”,” AIBEA general secretary C V Venkatchalam told media persons.
“I would like to appeal Modi- remember you have been given the full mandate so please don’t spoil the country…govern it…don’t trouble the common man to please corporate lobby,” he commented.
Venkatchalam was addressing media after attending the 18th conference of Goa Bank Employees Association (GBEA), a union affiliated to AIBEA. The conference has resolved to call for nationwide protest against demonetization, if the Central government fails to make available the adequate currency in the banks and upgrade the existing ATM machines.
“The demonetization move has led to financial chaos. Government has failed completely in its move. Common man is suffering and bankers are feeling the heat. People have money but are not in position to withdraw. Chaotic situation is prevailing at the bank branches and this is unbearable for customers as well as bank employees and officers,” Venkatchalam said informing that as against the total requirement of the currency at national level, only 28 percent has come to bank since November 8.
