Banks, other establishments to remain closed on Monday

State govt issues addendum declaring public holiday on January 22, under Section 25 of Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881

PANJIM: The State government on Saturday issued an addendum declaring public holiday for banks and other establishments on Monday, January 22, under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, along with government offices and academic institutions in view of Ram temple’s consecration ceremony in Ayodhya.

An addendum was issued by the State government to its earlier order regarding the public holiday. It read as under, “The following para shall be added to the above read Notification dated 17th January 2024 declaring public holiday on 22nd January 2024, on occasion of the grand ceremony of consecration of idol of Prabhu Shri Ram at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.

The above public holiday is also declared under section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881,” states the addendum issued by Under Secretary (General Administration-I)Shaila G Bhosle.

The Central government employees have been given half-day holiday on Monday. BSE, NSE too will remain shut on Monday. 

Meanwhile, casinos operators, both off-shore and on-land in the State have too voluntarily decided to shut gaming operations from 8 am to 4 pm on Monday. Offshore casinos see more footfalls in the evenings and weekends. When contacted, Home Department sources said that it had not issued any such order asking casinos to remain closed on Monday.
