A banner war has raged between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Goa Forward workers of Fatorda where there have been allegations and counter allegations of banners having removed from the places they were posted. A fight between workers of both the party which led to manhandling and shoving around happened at the public meeting of Goa Forward on Monday at Borda.
The AAP Candidate of Fatorda, Ranjit Cotta Carvalho, came to the venue of the public meeting and got into an argument over the removal of the banner from the fence of the ground at Borda. Carvalho alleged the Goa Forward workers of removing his banners from the posted places. The arguments later turned into an altercation with both parties pushing and shoving around each other.
Goa Forward members and Vijai camp said that they are innocent and have not removed any banners. When inquired from internal quarters it was learnt that the AAP had posted several banners of their candidate at the venue where the Goa Forward was supposed to have the meeting.
Problems brewed yet again on Tuesday after the Aam Aadmi Party workers protested before the house of Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai. The Candidate of AAP Ranjit said, “130 banners of AAP were removed from various places. We don’t want goons and only wish to fight the elections on the basis on issues,” said the AAP candidate from Fatorda.
The Fatorda MLA Camp meanwhile said that they are not the troublemakers and neither wish to be in any argument with the alleging people.
The echoes of the issue were heard in the Municipal Council meeting. The Council has resolved to start full complete enforcement of the Prevention of Defacement of Public Property act. The Municipality has decided not to allow any banners in the public property hereon and has asked the administration to start cracking down on the offenders. The Municipality has decided not to even allow the MLA’s banners in the town.
The anger against the banners has meanwhile worked for good of the town but it will be interesting to see how long the prohibition stays.
