Bar owner held for serving frog meat

MARGAO: Despite a ban, frog poaching continues in Salcete. On Monday night, a well known restaurant and bar in Nuvem was raided by the Forest Department squad for serving frog meat. 
The team led by the Range Forest Officer Siddhesh Gaude and others arrested the owner of the bar and restaurant and seized two frogs ready for cooking. 
The accused was arrested under Wildlife Protection Act and released on bail on Tuesday. 
After all the awareness and sensitization against the capturing and killing of frogs, the illegalities continue and have become commercial now. The hotels in Salcete taluka are serving frog meat without any fear. 
Fresh frog meat dishes are also available in hotels at Colva and coastal areas.
Since the arrival of the monsoon, the Forest Department has arrested two persons for poaching frogs.
The RFO Siddhesh Gawde said that the frog meat is not stored in the location of consumption. It is brought to the place on demand. The hotel owners are serving frog meat to regular customers, Gawde said.
