Barricade stone quarrying pits during monsoon, DMG tells lessees in Goa

PANJIM: The Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) has directed all the lessees to barricade the stone quarrying pits to avoid any untoward incidences during the monsoon, failing which the lease holder will be held accountable for any unforeseen events. 

In a circular issued on Monday, the Director DMG Suresh Shanbhogue said that during the monsoon preparedness review meeting chaired by the District Collector, the need for barricading the area of quarrying pits/stone quarries was emphasised to avoid any untoward incidences. 

He said that as per the conditions mentioned in the lease deed, it is the responsibility of the lessee to barricade the lease area so as to ensure safety of animals and human beings. 

“In view of above, all the lessees are here by directed to ensure that the lease area as per the approved plan is properly barricaded so that lives of human beings and animals are prevented from any untoward incidences,” Shanbhogue said directing the lessees to furnish the compliance report within ten days. 

The Director said that the failure to adhere to these instructions will be viewed seriously and the lease holder will be held responsible for any unforeseen events.
