PANJIM: Vishant S Nagvekar, Advisory Committee Member for Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities has demanded barrier-free access to the washroom or toilet for individuals and staff with disabilities at Paryatan Bhavan.
In a letter addressed to the Tourism Director, Nagvekar has said the Paryatan Bhavan Building, located at Patto, is one of the most frequently visited government properties in the capital city.
“The building houses at least three to four government departments and offices, including the office of the Union Minister. The accessible toilet or washroom, specially made for individuals with disabilities, is kept locked, thereby preventing both staff and visitors with disabilities from using the facilities available at this government premises. Instead, these washrooms, especially on the first floor of the building, are used by some senior staff without disabilities, depriving the staff with disabilities of their rightful access,” he has said.
