PANJIM: In a major move, Industries Minister Vishwajit Rane has decided not to allow anymore Bars, Alcohol and Brewery industries in the state’s industrial estates (IE), while urging the excise department to cancel the existing licences in this sector.
Speaking to HERALD, Rane said that he would be writing to CM Pramod Sawant requesting  not to allow setting up of new bars and alcohol and brewery industries in any of the  22 IEs.  He  said he will write to the excise commissioner to cancel all the licences that are granted to bars and alcohol industries within the jurisdiction of the IEs.
“I will write to the CM soon after he is back from Russia. I am not going to allow any such units in the industrial estate. We are planning to promote industrial canteens with nutritious food to the workers,” he said, while adding that the excise dept will be asked to conduct a survey to identify bars that are operational in the IEs.
He said it was former CM (late) Manohar Parrikar’s decision not to allow bars and alcohol units in the industrial areas.
