Panjim: On emerging victorious in the just-held Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) left no opportunity to ridicule Opposition parties’ attempts to damage the former’s public image by raking up controversies ahead of polls.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Deputy CM Chandrakant Kavlekar, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade held a joint press conference at the party head office to announce their ZP victory.
“We are not disturbed about what’s taking place on social media,” Sawant said while replying to a query about the social media campaigns against various developmental projects such as double-tracking, highway expansion,IIT amongst others.
The CM, elated with the ZP results, said that citizens have reposed faith in BJP despite the widespread anti-government campaigns. “The electorates came out to vote even in the post COVID-19 situation; and they have reposed faith in BJP no matter what people (referring to the anti-government lobby) say. The (ZP) results are a proof,” he said assuring that the party will work towards maximum development of rural Goa.
Kavlekar and Rane, also echoed similar opinions as they took a dig at the Opposition parties for a futile attempt to dent BJP’s popularity among the Goans.
“People have given a befitting reply by voting in favour of BJP. The Opposition has done nothing but only criticized the BJP. It is only the BJP that has worked tirelessly for its people even during the COVID-19 times,” Kavlekar said.
“Many people have taken issues on social media platforms… but it did not have any impact on us. People need development,” Rane said while almost mocking Congress’ humiliating defeat.
Tanavade claimed that BJP has made its presence in every taluka even as political parties, NGOs and certain individuals had come together to launch sustained protest against various decisions of the government.
