MERCES: The villagers objected to Batim Panchayat’s decision to allot the panchayat ground for private schools to conduct their activities.
At the Gram Sabha on Sunday, the villagers took the panchayat authorities to task for allotting the ground to a private school free of cost.
The villagers opined that the private schools charge high fees from students and hence they should be charged for usage of the ground.
“The ground should be allotted free of cost only to the government and aided schools,” a villager resolved.
The villagers also took exception to the budgetary provision of Rs 1 lakh made towards maintenance of the panchayat hall.
“An income of only Rs 4.5 lakh is earned per annum from the letting out of the hall,” observed the villager and opined that the allocation of Rs 1 lakh for its maintenance is too high considering the fact that the toilets are not properly maintained.
The villagers also resolved that the panchayat should undertake the exercise of cutting dead trees in the village before there is any loss to life and property.
The low attendance of villagers for the Gram Sabha also echoed at the meeting with villagers questioning why there is lack of interest among the voters and demanded that the panchas should create awareness in their respective wards so that the Gram Sabha is well attended.
