MARGAO: Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo on Saturday gave a call to fight a ceaseless battle against the challenges of physical and mental disabilities of a section of disadvantaged children, which continues to be a major hurdle for overall human development.
“I firmly believe that when it comes to humanitarian cause of our less fortunate brethren, we should forget all our differences, be it racial, religious, caste or class and put forward our collective efforts with sincerity, strong determination, iron will and human concern,” the governor said while addressing the inaugural function of the all Goa Goan Folk Dance competition organised by the Gujarati Samaj Educational Trust here on Saturday.
“We should believe in humanity as being above all other issues of politics and economics and appreciate that the suffering of some individuals is as painful and bad as the suffering of other individuals. How we can claim to be truly civilised unless we are able to develop sensitiveness to the sufferings of a section of our society,” he said.
Complimenting the Gujarati Samaj Educational Trust for making a mark in fighting a major social problem faced by society by trying to educate and elevate the status of differently abled children, the governor expressed confidence that that pioneering work of the Gujarati Samaj would be a beacon of light for all future endeavours.
In his brief address, former Chief Minister and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat complimented the Gujarati Samaj Trust for running the school for special children. He appealed to the philanthropists to come forward and lend a helping hand to the Trust to complete the building extension project.
