Cuncolim Police personnel rushed to the area as a precautionary measure, even as deputy Collector, Quepem Ajit Panchwadkar had a meeting with the agitated truck owners to find a solution to the impasse. Panchwadkar said he tried to understand the problem and find a solution to avoid any untoward incident. Since the mine owner or his representative failed to turn up at the meeting, the deputy Collector said he would submit a detailed report to the district Collector, South Venancio Furtado for further action.
Earlier in the day, the agitated truck owners stopped ore laden trucks on the Cottyar road. Though the group consisting of the Naqueri later lodged complaints with the Cuncolim police, the agitated truck owners said they will not allow any ore transportation till their demands for first come first serve basis and without any bias to the outsider transporters.
When Herald contacted Cuncolim Police station inc-charge, PI Ram Asare, he confirmed that the police had received a complaint from the Naqeri truk owners stating that there trucks have been stopped by the rival group. “We are assessing the situation at Naqueri. Today, a meeting was called to hammer out a solution, but the mine owner nor his representative turned up at the meet,” he said.
