PANJIM/MARGAO:  Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) on Monday protested the State government’s negligence towards primary schools, claiming that around 400 primary schools across the State would be shut in the next three academic years.
BBSM said that they would be protesting at various locations to bring awareness among the people that the government is neglecting these primary schools.
“On one hand the government is saying that they only give stress on regional language schools but on the other hand the government is hesitating to give permissions to 38 new applications it has received to open new Konkani/Marathi primary schools. Also the government has granted permission to an English private school and we condemn this act,” BBSM member Mahesh Mahambre said.
He added, “We demand that permissions be immediately granted to these 38 regional language schools. As per the statistics given by Subhash Velingkar, close to 400 government primary schools are on the verge of closure, some of them are Konkani, most of them are Marathi and these is completely due to neglect of the State government.”
Meanwhile, raising concern over the rampant closure of Government Primary Schools, Advocate Uday Bhembre said the Government today is only concerned on saving bars and liquor vends from shutting down.
