MARGAO: Salcete Block Development Officer Amitesh Shirvoikar who had gone to Davorlim Dicarpale panchayat area to inspect the site in ward No 1 where there were complaints of illegal construction, had to return without carrying out the site inspection as the villagers protested vehemently against the inspection and there was a threat of a law and order situation.
Following complaints from the locals that the builder had encroached on comunidade land and there were other illegalities, the panchayat had called for site inspection and accordingly the BDO visited the panchayat on Tuesday along with his officials.
However, the complainant did not have any documents with regards to the land and the landlord was not present since he had sold the land to the builder. Some of the people who have purchased the plots got agitated and asserted that they would not allow the inspection to be done without the relevant documents being scrutinized.
The police force was not present as police protection was not sought since no trouble was anticipated. “Next time I shall carry out the inspection with police protection and then let those misbehaving pay the price,” the BDO said.
