MARGAO: Director of Panchayats Ajit Panchwadkar on Monday directed both the Block Development Officers of Salcete to issue notices to the panchayats within their jurisdiction that are found not adhering to the rules.
The BDOs were asked to issue notices to the panchayats that have not conducted the gram sabhas in April. These panchayats will have to have another gram sabha in the month of July as mandated by law, he said.
BDO Amitesh Shirvoikar said six panchayats had not conducted the gram sabhas in April and added that two of them have convened a gram sabha on June 3.
Panchawadkar also asked the BDOs to conduct regular inspection of panchayats and revealed that he had discovered that Chinchinim panchayat had excess cash in hand and had also not noted down the transactions for nearly a fortnight.
The BDOs admitted that most panchayats in Salcete have excess cash in hand and said they had advised the panchayats against these practices.
The Director of Panchayats instructed them to issue notices to the defaulting panchayats.
