PANJIM: Goencho Ekvott (GE), one of the groups, which has been fighting against the double-tracking project, has asked the villagers of Guirdolim to remain cautious with respect to the assurances that are being given by the railway authorities.
GE was responding to the officials of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) meeting with the people of Guirdolim on Tuesday where they tentatively agreed to the demands of the people. The locals had asked that these promises be given in writing.
GE had earlier accompanied the villagers in December when they had stopped the trucks sent by Railways to fill mud in low-lying areas and was also present when the locals had met the WRD Minister and later confronted the Guirdolim panchayat secretary on these developments.
“Villagers of Guirdolim and Chandor must not think that mere temporary stoppage of works is a victory for them. The Railway Contractor – RVNL is not to be trusted to keep their word, we at Goencho Ekvott have enough experience dealing with their ‘we care a damn’ attitude. Be vigilant always, don’t ever let your guard down,” said Orville Dourado Rodrigues, GE’s founder member.
