PANJIM: With nights becoming warmer, the day temperatures in the State have increased considerably, with Indian Meteorological Department not ruling out the possibility of the mercury touching 39 degrees Celsius in next few days, which is the highest temperature ever recorded in Goa way back in 1989.
The month of April with dry winds, saw maximum temperature increasing above normal. The temperature for the month so far has been hovering between 33 to 35 degree Celsius that is 3 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature for last couple of days has also been above normal thus making nights warmer.
IMD Goa Observatory in-charge K V Singh told Herald that the rise in the temperature is mainly due to the dry weather which is normal during summer. “The northerly winds are bringing the heat as they are dry winds and the moisture they contain is very low,” he said.
For the current summer ~February to May~ March 13 has been the hottest day when the temperature went up to 37 degree Celsius. A similar temperature was recorded in 1979.
For Thursday day temperature recorded was 34.9 Degree Celsius, 2 degree above normal while the night temperature was 1 degree above normal that is 27.4 Degree Celsius. Friday forecast is maximum temperature 35 Degree C and minimum temperature 26 degree C. Humidity during Thursday was high at 85 percent.
