Beach Vigil App launched for timely reporting of issues on the beach

App launched on National Tourism Day allows users to swiftly report and resolve issues such as unauthorised activities, ensuring safety of both locals and tourists

PANJIM: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte launched the ‘Beach Vigil App’ –an innovative solution to enhance beach management and address various beach-related issues on Thursday, on the occasion of National Tourism Day.

Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director of Tourism and Managing Director of Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) and Revati Kumar, CEO and Executive Director of Goa Electronics Ltd (GEL) were also present.

The Beach Vigil App focuses on timely reporting and resolution of issues that can arise on beaches. By providing a user-friendly interface, the app empowers individuals to report various concerns relating to beach activities quickly and effectively. Whether it’s the occurrence of drinking on the beach, unauthorised extensions of deck beds, hawkers selling items or food on the beach, or any other violation, users can now bring the authorities’ attention to these matters with just a few taps on their mobile devices. The ‘Beach Vigil App’ is now available for users to download from Play Store.

Speaking on the occasion, Khaunte stated that ‘Beach Vigil App’ is a collaborative effort aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of locals and tourists alike. By harnessing the power of mobile technology, this app will empower citizens to play an active role in preserving our pristine coastlines and safeguarding the lives of those who enjoy them.

The ‘Beach Vigil App’ encompasses a wide range of stakeholders to ensure effective resolution of reported issues, Khaunte said and urged each and every one to download it and join in this great endeavour, and to create a culture of safety and sustainability, preserving our beaches for future generations.

Suneel Anchipaka said, “The ‘Beach Vigil App’ is a shining example of how technology can be harnessed to address the challenges we currently face today. This app ensures a more sustainable and enjoyable experience for all, as it stands as a powerful tool for change to protect our natural marvels.”

Recognising the importance of prompt action, the ‘Beach Vigil App’ has set a timeline duration of two hours for issue resolution, except for cases reported between 6pm and 8am. The app’s dedication to timely response ensures that everyone can enjoy their experience while feeling safe and secure.

Since its ‘soft launch’ in July last year, the app has been downloaded by 1,300 persons, who reported 1,240 violations, 1091 of which were addressed, the Minister informed.

To a question, Khaunte said that the new tender for beach cleaning will be floated this month. He said that the contract of the agency, which was awarded the tender in 2019 has been extended. Under the new tender, entire 104-km-long beach stretch will be covered.
