MARGOA: It’s been more than 6 months since the Forest department has withdrawn their workers who were maintaining a garden in the south end of the Margao Flyover. Without any maintenance, the site has tuned into a dump yard where people living around the area have stacked wooden and metal beams, bricks, plastic and firewood. One side of the garden fence is being used to dry clothes while on the other side, a vegetable vendor has set up shop by spreading his vegetable crates along the fence.
The area had been beautified to keep migrant labour from setting up huts under the flyover. Palm trees and other ornamental plants were planted and the area was fenced, which provided astheitcally pleasing sight to the otherwise uninviting Khareband/railway station road.
Savio Coutinho, President of Shadow Council of Margao, informed that the forest department was doing a good job but they have suddenly stopped maintaining the site. He infomed that he will take up the matter with the Municipality.
