MARGAO: Uproar marked the Sunday gram sabha of Cavelossim Panchayat on a host of issues, even as gram sabha member Fr Eremito Rebello told the panchayat body that it was high time that they submit their resignation.
The police made its presence felt at the meeting for some time to restore order after a remark made against a panch member triggered uproar and bedlam midway through the meeting. The meeting had to be stopped for quite some time before better sense prevailed and the meeting resumed.
“It is a shame on us that the Panchayat body is just dilly dallying in providing information on several issues raised by the gram sabha members. How can your conscience allow you to deny information to the members? It is high time that you submit your resignation,” Fr Eremito told Sarpanch Viola Costa, which was welcomed by a gram sabha members.
Gram sabha members took up a host of issues including the controversial housing project under construction in the village, with members demanding to know why the project was not referred to the CRZ agency for inspection and action.
Agitated members also took the Panchayat to task for the failure to put in a place a development plan. Gram sabha member Irish Passianha demanded the resignation of the Panchayat body if they have done any development activity without the development plan in place or without the resolution of the gram sabha. He termed as illegal any development activity carried out by the Panchayat body without a development plan or sans a resolution from the gram sabha.
The issue of access of the beach belt blocked by the starred hotels also figured prominently at the meeting, with members demanding that the Panchayat open the beach access immediately.
Sarpanch Viola Costa pointed out that the hotel owner has insisted that he has not blocked the access, even as gram sabha members demanded that the Panchayat obtain an undertaking from the hotel in this regard.
The issue over the bypass road to the Assolna-Cavelossim bridge once again figured at the meeting.
