MAPUSA: A Beef and Pork Complex at Mapusa Municipal Market was inaugurated by Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza in the presence of Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Shubhangi Vaingankar, Vice Chairperson Chandrashekhar Benkar, councillors and others.
The complex was inaugurated after a long wait of almost three years. The vendors were operating in the temporary stalls. The new complex has 14 stalls and is constructed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore.
D’Souza while addressing the function said, “This was a pending project for the last four years. The work, which had started in 2018, was to be completed in one-and-a-half year but was delayed due to some hurdles. The stall owners will be able to start business within one week”.
“This project is outcome of follow up and efforts of former chairperson and councillor Sudhir Kandolkar”, he added.
The MLA also informed that around 48 per cent work of the Mapusa bus stand has been completed. “Similarly, other multiple projects such as material recovery facility at Cunchelim, ground at Saraswat Vidayala and laying of foundation will for administrative building, Tar bridge work will be completed in time”, he said.
Chairperson Vaingankar appealed to the stall owners to maintain cleanliness and hygiene at the complex and take care of the premises like their own stalls.
Meanwhile, opposition councillors raised voice for not including councillor Kandolkar’s name on the plaque. Councillor Komal D’Souza boycotted the function.
