Beef shops at SGPDA wear a deserted look

Margao: The shortage of beef in the South Goa markets is increasing with every passing day.

Margao: The shortage of beef in the South Goa markets is increasing with every passing day. The traders who sold 500 kgs per day are only getting supply of 150 kgs per day. The traders and allied businessmen have urged that the supply be regularised by removing the disruptions in transport.
The deficiency of beef in the markets has not just affected the domestic but also the star hotels market. Aslam Bepari said, “Getting bulls from places beyond the state is getting difficult by the day. Supplies are dipping. The star hotels have to be sent back due to the lowered supply”.
The shops at the SGPDA and Gandhi market wore a deserted look on Monday. Meanwhile the Goa Forward Party has reacted sharply on the beef issue.
“Our policy is clear that, every person has the freedom to eat beef if he wants, pork if he wants, we don’t honour these bans, whoever it may be,” said Mohandas Lolienkar. “We will work to get the supply of beef if there is distortion or purposeful stoppage” said Lolienkar.
“No one can dictate eating habits on anyone in Goa and we wont pay heed to the forces” said Prashant Naik.
The District Collector on being asked about the disruptions in livestock transport said “I have not yet been approached by any authorities on this issue, neither by animal husbandry or others. I don’t know how serious the issue of transport is too. Maybe it has been taken up directly at the state Government level, but I am not aware nor anyone has approached by anybody” said District Collector of South Goa Swapnil Naik.
