VASCO: A 60-year-old beggar was found brutally murdered on the footpath near Vincent General Stores, in Vasco on Thursday Morning. Within few hours of the incident, the Vasco Police caught another beggar suspected to be mentally unsound and took him into custody as police suspects his involvement into the murder case.
According to Vasco Police, the victim has been identified as Satish Yellappa Naik (60), a native of Belgaum.
“As per the statement of another beggar, Satish was living in Vasco since last several years and was using a frontage of a shop besides the footpath near Teles Pharmacy for sleeping during night. Thus, between 12.30 am and 5 am on Thursday, one Mohammad Salauddin who is believed to be mentally unsound and was seen sleeping near the victim allegedly committed the murder by assaulting the victim with a concrete stone on his head while the victim was fast asleep,” Vasco PI Nolasco Raposo said.
During investigation police received information that Salauddin is a beggar and had recently came down to Vasco. An offence under section 302 of IPC stands registered against the accused person. The body of Satish has been preserved at GMC morgue.
