VASCO: Several homeless beggars are found occupying the footpath outside the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) building despite being relocated to the shelter home two months ago by a social worker along with the municipality staff in a special drive.
It has been observed that these beggars are staying in very bad conditions in the Port town without food, semi-nude and even without basic hygiene. Most of these beggars consist of adolescent girls, mid aged and old women and also men. These beggars sit outside the municipal building and beg.
Visitors to the municipal building complain of several problems they face as the beggars have occupied maximum portion of the footpath.
“These beggars obstruct the footpath by sleeping, sitting on it. These beggars urinate and even defecate outside the building which is sheer disgust. I wonder what the local governing authorities are doing about it,” said Rafiq.
