Excise officials in Belagavi conducted a successful operation at the Bachi checkpoint near the Maharashtra-Karnataka border, intercepting a cargo rickshaw transporting illegally acquired Goa liquor worth Rs 5 lakh. The thorough search by the excise team led to the discovery of 760 bottles comprising nine varieties of liquor, all lacking the necessary permit for transportation. Two individuals, Nagesh Narayan Patil (34) and Sahil Laxman Patil (19), were arrested for their involvement in the illegal transportation and subsequently presented before the court, leading to their imprisonment.
The raid was executed by a dedicated team under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Vanjakshi M, Excise Superintendent Vijaykumar Hiremath, and Deputy Superintendent Ravi Y Murgod. Inspectors Manjunath Galgali and Sunil Patil, among others, played a crucial role in the operation, conducted with guidance from Additional Commissioner of Excise Dr. Y Manjunath and Assistant Commissioner Feroze Khan Killedar. This significant seizure comes on the heels of a previous incident on October 17, where Belagavi excise officials confiscated Rs 10 lakh worth of Goa liquor from a lorry on the Pune-Bengaluru NH748 highway, leading to the arrest of the truck driver.
