BENAULIM: The people of Benaulim constituency are ready for change, believes Aam Aadmi party (AAP) candidate Captain Venzy Viegas.
He says this is the constant feedback he and his supporters have been getting during their door-door campaigning across the villages of Benaulim recently.
“People want a change. We have been asking them to give us a chance. We can deliver a proven model of governance that can benefit the common man in so many ways and in areas where such support has been lacking so far. Be it electricity, water supply, education, health infrastructure, employment……..we at AAP have a Goa model, which people are accepting and responding well to,” said Viegas.
Incidentally, AAP Goa opened their account in Goa by winning the ZIlla Panchayat (ZP) elections in Benaulim constituency. This has been a boost to their campaign with the ZP member Hansel Fernandes and family joining hands with the AAP family, which is Viegas’ support base in the constituency.
When asked if anything in particular has stood out in his interaction with the voters, he recollected that the efforts he along AAP had put in during the Covid pandemic has struck a chord with the community.
From helping out seafarers who were stranded at sea and international waters and were trying to come back home to helping to provide families with ration and arrange for medical aid whenever required, Viegas said that whenever the public needed help, he was to not only provide assistance but to also give them reassurances that their grievances would be addressed.
During his visits to the houses of the electorate, Viegas has taken to social media to point out the kind of problems he has seen first-hand that have not been resolved by the government. He gives the example of how bad the quality roads are in some places and questions why this has been neglected for years given that this is one of the key necessities for the public.
He has also highlighted ideas that are specific to the constituency and taking into account the type of villages, the size of the population and the present amenities available. For instance, he calls for a decentralized wet waste management system for residential houses per village and feels the existing system is not sustainable in the long run.
These are just some of the reforms, which are part of a larger all-encompassing plan covering various aspects in Benaulim that he wants to implement so that the constituency can be transformed and become a better place for the voters to live in. Besides this, he also wants to ensure that the suggestions and views that the public have are taken into consideration and reflected on the ground level.
