MARGAO: While the Goa Panchayat Raj Act envisages that every village have four ordinary gram sabhas on any Sundays of January, April, July and October, Cana Benaulim Panchayat did not hold the gram sabha for April and it is now time for the next gram sabha.
Chinchinim and Dramapur Sirlim too did not have their gram sabhas for April as they were adjourned or cancelled. Chinchinim Deussua sabha was convened on April 14. The villagers asked for it to be cancelled as the minutes of the previous sabha were not read since it involved development works and was being held when the poll code was in force.
Dramapur Sirlim gram sabha on April 28 had to be adjourned due to the villagers’ demand since the poll code was in force.
Cancelled twice, the Betalbatim gram sabha was finally held on June 30. The first gram sabha on April 28 was cancelled as due to the code of conduct.
When the gram sabha was convened on June 16, there was ruckus as it was termed adjourned gram sabha due to which fresh proposals or suggestions were not accepted and this infuriated the people.
Now is the time for the third annual gram sabha to be held in July and Aquem Baixo was the only one to hold it on July 7.
