MARGAO: Ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, the Benaulim Lake was cleaned up after 11 years, for the traditional Ganpati Visarjan. In addition, steps have been built, to help people get to the water safely. The cleanup of the lake was carried out by Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas under the Amrit Sarovar Mission. Four other lakes in the constituency are also being cleaned as part of the mission.
The Hindu community of Benaulim said that the lake was earlier very polluted, and they also faced issues pertaining to illumination and access to the lake during Chaturthi, over the past decade.
