MARGAO: Benaulim locals have urged for prompt action from PWD and National Highway officials regarding the ongoing Western Bypass construction near the Mercado Mall junction in Benaulim.
Santan Pereira, a social activist, has expressed fears of potential fatal accidents at the Benaulim-Varca-Navelim junction due to the PWD’s road diversion for underpass construction. “Safety measures should be a priority during such infrastructure projects”, local residents added. Pereira highlighted deteriorating road conditions on the diversion route, impacting vehicle movement. He emphasised the dangers posed by a makeshift traffic island, constructed with fabric and iron rods, expressing concerns about the protruding rods endangering motorists.
Pereira emphasised the need for urgent attention to the damaged state of the temporary diversion road, calling for another hot mix coat to ensure smooth traffic flow. Additionally, he called for proper illumination along the entire stretch for enhanced safety.
