MARGAO: Benaulim locals have demanded the Benaulim-Sinquetim Bridge should be completed at the earliest, stating that the project is need of an hour. People gathered on Tuesday at the construction site pledged their full support to the bridge project, which is pending since 2012.
However, Public Works Department (PWD) has asked the police protection to commence the incomplete bridgework.
Local Panch, David Fernandes, along with Deputy Sarpanch of Benaulim Panchayat, Nilesh Prabhudesai, panch member Menino Fernandes and other local leaders were also present at the site.
Reportedly, two days ago supporters of former Navelim Legislator Avertano Furtado and former Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva had objected to the bridge project, claiming that the government is yet to acquire the land.
Panch David Fernandes said that all the people of the concerned ward and in general are in favour of the bridge project. “Oppositions are simply misleading the people about the project. They are creating fear amongst the people that project will lead to the destruction of their houses and properties, which is totally false”, he said.
