MARGAO: A tense situation was witnessed at Colva Police Station on Saturday when around hundred Benaulim locals gathered and protested against an alleged compound wall built in the open space of a chapel located at Dando, Benaulim.

The locals are irked as the police are summoning few at the police station in this regard. Former minister Mickky Pacheco too intervened in the matter and stated that he will standby with the locals’ demand.
It was an issue pertaining to a clash between the locals and the builder over the issue of an alleged compound wall built in the open space of a chapel. Earlier, the locals had objected to the builder for acquiring the open space, used by locals for public utility and also for religious purposes.
“The police have summoned three out of hundred who objected the builder. Why only three? Why police did not call all, as we all had objected. This is harassment,” the villagers stated.
The villagers also claimed that earlier the concerned builder had promised to leave the open space for the public utility. However, he failed to do so.
“We have gathered here to protest the act of builder and also of police. Why police summoned only three,” a local, Santano Afonso questioned.
Hearing the news, former minister Mickky Pacheco rushed to the police station and inquired about the incident. He also met the concerned police officer, besides the builder present at the police station.
“The builder has promised that he will not acquire the open space and it will be kept for public utility. If failed to fulfil the promise given, I will see to it that the people gets the justice,” said Mickky.
