MARGAO: The funeral of Agnelo Farias Fernandes, who died while undergoing treatment at GMC, was held at St John the Baptist Church, Benaulim, on Wednesday at 4 pm. Many tributes and condolences were offered by his family and friends, who attended the funeral in large numbers to pay their respects to Agnelo.
It may be recalled that Agnelo met with an accident on Thursday evening, after which he was taken to Hospicio Hospital, Margao, and later transferred to GMC at 11 pm. A relative had claimed that Agnelo was left in the casualty ward till 4 am without any attention, due to which a blood clot had formed, worsening his condition and leading to his death, but Agnelo’s family members termed the claims as “false”.
They stated that Agnelo was attended to within 20 minutes by the doctors on duty, and they also thanked the GMC doctors and medical staff for trying to save Agnelo.
Agnelo was remembered for the good work he did for the people around him in Benaulim; he was known to have put his heart and soul into helping people who were in need of counsel or those who did not have money. He was constantly seen in government offices, accompanying people who needed his help. He could never tolerate injustice in any form and loved his family fiercely and was equally loved by those close to him.
Agnelo had worked in Dubai for over 25 years.
He is survived by his widow Antonette, daughters/sons-in-law Anishia/Joshua, Angela/Allwyn, son Alester and grandchildren Aiden, Lillian, Paige, Alric and Abigail.
