MARGAO: Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao on Friday urged the government to extend the curfew for more days as the surge of COVID is yet to slow down.
“This infection is very dangerous and hence people should not take it lightly,” he appealed. He said that Carnival and other festivals were few reasons for the COVID surge in the State while inaugurating the COVID Care Centre, at Church Hall, Colva.
“At the time of the first wave of COVID-19 along with few others, my wife and I got infected with the virus. We survived. Thereafter, before the surge of the second wave, I had requested the Chief Minister not to allow the Carnival and other festival celebrations in the State. There were few who had not listened to CM’s advice,” he said.
Churchill was accompanied by Nodal Officer for COVID Care Centres Deepak Dessai, Deputy Collector John Fernandes, and Health Officer Dr Succoro Quadros among others.
Churchill also said that he has lost several close friends and claimed that the home quarantine option has resulted in too many COVID positive cases.
“CT scan has to be done compulsorily because it is the exact way to detect the infection and its impact done to one’s body,” he said.
Nodal Officer Dessai said that MLA Alemao had put hard efforts in order to commence the COVID Care Centre in Colva.
Health Officer Dr Quadros said, “The COVID Care Centre at Colva is a 28-bedded centre and four doctors along with four nurses will be engaged to provide medical facilities and assistance.”
“We will closely monitor the COVID positive patients who get admitted over here. If anything serious will shift the patient to Cansaulim PHC and if required to District Hospital or GMC,” he said.
