Benaulim senior citizen killed in crash on new Zuari bridge

Third fatal accident in Verna PS jurisdiction in three days

VASCO: In a fatal accident reported on the New Zuari bridge on Sunday, 61-year-old Rosario D’Souza from Benaulim was killed after a rent-a-car rammed into his two-wheeler. Rosario’s wife, who was riding pillion, was seriously injured. 

 The accident occurred when the couple was proceeding from Benaulim to Panjim, while the rent-a-car driven by Kunal Verma of Delhi was also proceeding in the same direction. On reaching the bridge, the car rammed into the two-wheeler, killing Rosario on the spot. His wife Cristina was seriously injured and has been admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, for treatment.

 This is the third fatal accident reported in the jurisdiction of the Verma police station over the last three consecutive days. PSI Sanket Talkar who conducted the panchanama has appealed to the people, especially motorists, to drive cautiously and to obey traffic rules. 

The police arrested driver Kunal Verma for driving the vehicle in rash and negligent manner and causing death. He was later released on bail. Further investigation is in progress under the guidance of Verma PI Diego Gracias and Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
