MARGAO: Villagers of Benaulim on Thursday strongly protested the sewage line of treated sewage water claiming that there is no proper management with regard to Sewage Treatment Plant and usage of treated water, besides fearing the nuisance. Villagers have demanded to stop the ongoing work immediately.
Villagers have further demanded the panchayat hold a special gram sabha in order to discuss the issue. They will be submitting a letter in this regard to the office of Village panchayat Benaulim on Friday.
Several villagers led by Royla Fernandes, and other local leaders held a protest near the Saint Anthony Cross at Benaulim.
Speaking to media Fernandes said that villagers don’t want the sewage line of treated sewage water in Benaulim, as it will create more nuisances in the village.
“The two sewage treatment plants at Sirvodem-Navelim are known to be a failure project of the government. There is no proper treatment of sewage, besides the treated sewage water is being released into the River Sal,” said Fernandes.
“People were with no water supply due to a pipeline burst due to ongoing work of laying sewage pipelines. This will lead to more sufferings”, said Fernandes.
