The forum has alleged that the plot finalised by the panchayat is in a low-lying area, due to which garbage will pollute the ground water as well as the nearby River Sal.
“The panchayat’s whole plan revolves around the needs and wants of the hotel industry of Benaulim, and not the locals,” said BCSF president Jose Rodrigues.
“We want a garbage treatment plant, but not in the ways they are trying to get it. We want to create awareness amongst the people and get them to oppose any such plan of the panchayat or the authorities,” said Judith Almeida of United Goans Foundation.
