VASCO: The grief-stricken relatives on Sunday performed the last rites of a 14-month-old toddler who was killed by her mother at Chicalim.
The last rites were performed at the Sada cemetery where the child was buried in the presence of her heartbroken father Nilesh Gone and some relatives.
Earlier Nilesh arrived from Germany and proceeded to Hospicio Hospital morgue at Margao to catch the last glimpse of the body of his beloved daughter before the autopsy.
After the post-mortem examination, the Vasco Police handed over the body to the relatives. They brought it to the Chicalim residence.
Vasco PI Kapil Nayak said the cause of death was due to comprehension of mouth and nostrils and that the viscera have been preserved for further investigation.
According to PI Nayak, the accused Nimisha Gone, who had attempted to commit suicide after allegedly killing her minor daughter is undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim and has refused to speak.
The police will now speak to her husband to ascertain the reasons why his wife committed the crime and whether she was suffering from any mental illness.
