MARGAO:  Margao Municipal vice-Chairperson Berta Cardozo was on Thursday voted out of office in a no confidence motion.
At a special meeting held in the Civic body office, the motion against Cardozo was carried by 14 votes to none. Berta and her group in the 20-member Civic body were conspicuous by their absence.
Chairperson Dayanand Deulkar, who was not a signatory to the no-trust motion, also supported the motion.
Before the 14 members could raise their hands in support of the motion, Councillor Sadanand Naik demanded to know why the six councillors were absent, including vice-Chairperson Berta Cardozo. He sought to know whether the Municipal office had served the notice on these six councillors. Councillor Pratima Coutinho also echoed a similar demand, prompting the officials to verify whether the meeting notices were despatched to the six councillors.
It was only after the office staff confirmed that the six councillors had received the notices that the 14 City Fathers raised their hands in support of the motion.
The 14-member group has already disclosed its plan to field councillor Dadi Mayemkar for the post of vice-chairperson.
