MARGAO: The functioning of the Betalbatim panchayat body came under scrutiny at the gram sabha meeting held on Sunday.
While a woman panch member sought to clarify her role and what all she had done, claiming that she was being sidelined, the gram sabha members urged her to write a formal complaint to the higher ups such as the Block Development Officer (BDO) and Directorate of Panchayats (DoP), which they said would have more weightage.
However, questions were raised by gram sabha members about how a particular resolution was taken by the panchayat body at its earlier meeting. There were further demands for transparency in the minutes of the meeting so that all the decision-making processes, especially the views of panch members are recorded.
Former Minister Mickky Pacheco who was present for the meeting also warned the panchayat that if the villagers need information about specific files, they can seek the same under Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Concerns about certain projects in the village as well the grievances of farmers were raised at the gram sabha meeting, along with other civic issues.
