MARGAO: Against the backdrop of various gram sabhas and panchayats from Salcete taluka passing resolutions on Mhadei, the panchayats of Betalbatim and Paroda were the latest to do so.
The Betalabatim village panchayat at their meeting passed a resolution opposing any plans to divert Mhadei River to the neighbouring State and have demanded that the approval that was granted by the Central government to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Karnataka government be withdrawn.
This issue was also discussed at the gram sabha held in the village recently. The panchayat will now be sending these resolutions to the government.
The Mhadei diversion issue was also raised at the gram sabha of Paroda village that was held recently. There the gram sabha unanimously passed a resolution that all plans to divert Mhadei river water to Karnataka be stopped and that the approval granted to the Karnataka government’s DPR be withdrawn immediately.
