PANJIM: Former Minister Francisco Xavier ‘Mickky’ Pacheco on Saturday demanded action against unauthorised and illegal tampering with and theft of water connection by a restaurant at Betalbatim.
Speaking to reporters, Mickky said that he had written a letter to the PWD assistant engineer, sub-division 4, Margao, to take action against the restaurant owner for blatantly violating the rules and regulations set forth by the PWD. He said that the water connection to the restaurant was disconnected in 2005 and since then there was no water connection from the PWD. The matter was also discussed in the Betalbatim village panchayat meeting.
Mickky said that the PWD had lost cores of rupees due to theft of water and demanded appropriate inquiry against the officers, who had failed to act against the illegalities.
Mickky said that the illegal theft of water by the restaurant is causing considerable inconvenience to the residents during water scarcity.
