PONDA: The Bethki-Khandola gram sabha on Sunday strongly opposed to proposed mobile tower coming up in Marcel residential area citing ill effects of the same.
According to locals a mobile company has started the preliminary work to construct a mobile tower near ferry point at Sarmanas Marcel.
Locals say harmful radiation occurs from mobile tower and it would not only affect human beings but also birds and coconut trees.
Locals claim that radiation from mobile tower has affected coconut production, as coconuts fall off before maturity.
Sarpanch Dilip Naik said that the panchayat has asked for a report from the company concerned explaining the effects of mobile towers.
He said that the panchyat has not yet issued NOC for installing the mobile tower and is currently studying the matter.
He said he would take the locals into confidence before taking any decision on issuing NOC for the mobile tower. Various resolutions on development were also passed on the occasion.
