‘Better healthcare facilities, administrative efficiency with creation of third district’

MARGAO: The creation of a third district for Goa would benefit the poor and senior citizens, improving health facilities and administrative efficiency as well, said Minister and Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, noting that he has long advocated for the establishment of a third district with its headquarters in Ponda

He added that land is also available for the construction of the new Collectorate building and added that this would be better as all government offices can come in one place.

“Apart from this, more funds for development can be obtained from the State and Central governments,” Naik added.  The Minister said that he will be personally following up after the Committee submits its report.

“If there is a third district, the benefit will be more for the poor people. Senior citizens have to commute to Panjim or Margao for work. Village people have no experience in administrative work and when they move to another place, they face problems in work. Apart from this, if the third district is created, more funds can be brought from the Central government and the State government.

He added that the third district could also help the government monitor the sale of land in these areas.

“The standard of the present sub-district hospital will increase, and it will become a district hospital, and the health facilities in it will improve,” he added.

Naik also said that the creation of a new district will give Goa three Lok Sabha seats – an additional Member of Parliament (MP).
