SANGUEM: The residents of Sanguem particularly those residing in Xelpem and Cotarli wards of Uguem Panchayat are worried after South Goa Collector Ruchika Katyal declared the area surrounding the beverage manufacturing unit at Xelpem as Micro Containment Zone.
It is pertinent to note that the area which has been declared as micro containment zone has large number of migrants working for the beverage company.
The notification has been issued in view of the rising number of COVID cases among the migrant labourers working for the factory since the past few days.
Enquiries revealed that of the 64 COVID cases recorded in Sanguem, over 40 are reported among these migrants employed at a beverage unit at Sanguem Industrial Estate.
After receiving information on the cases and to avoid further spread of the infection in the locality, the Collector issued the order declaring the area at Xelpem where these labourers reside in rented premises as Micro Containment Zone.
Ever since the declaration of Micro Containment Zone, the Sanguem Police led by PI Sachin Panelkar and Sanitary Inspector Vassudev Naik have adopted strict measures to prevent the labourers from coming out.
Incidentally, Sanguem residents have urged the authorities to conduct through checks on other migrants working at different places in Sanguem, who visit the town area on regular basis to buy grocery and other food items.
Meanwhile, the health authorities attached to Sanguem PHC got the Xelpem residential colony sanitised.
