VASCO: Minister of State for Defence Dr Subhash Bhamre on Thursday said the Centre is keen to resolve concerns raised by the ex-servicemen and the government has been studying the recommendations made by Reddy Commission for the welfare of defence personnel.
He was speaking after inaugurating two-day 147th Defence Pension Adalat at Naval Headquarters, Vasco on Thursday. A Lincoln, Principal Controller of Defence Accounts and Veena Prasad, Chief Controller of Defence Accounts were also present.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi always says that government’s preference is the welfare of the defence personnel. Government is studying the recommendations made by Reddy Commission for the welfare of defence personnel’ Dr Bhamre said.
He said, “Government and nation will never forget the sacrifices of defence personnel. Government is bound to the welfare of ‘men in uniform.’ Pension disbursement is a complicated process, but Ministry of Defence is trying to make it easier and simple. Every year, 60,000 to 80,000 defence personnel retire. Now government is successfully re-employing these ex-servicemen. Government has also started skill education and banking knowledge through various PSUs for the betterment of the ex-servicemen, he said.
Minister said that these kinds of initiatives (Pension Adalat) are really helpful for the Ex-servicemen and their families.
Veena Prasad said, “The department has taken initiative for arranging Defence Pension Adalats since 1987. So far there is 90 percent customer satisfaction through these adalats.”
