PANJIM: The 27-km range surface-to-air medium-range Akash missile, which will be inducted into the Indian Army next month, will be on display at the Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan and Expo 2015, which opens at Campal from Thursday. A number of other missiles and satellites will also be displayed.
During the pre-launch of the event, Dr G Chandramauli, Project Director, Akash, Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad, said, “These are improved versions of what we had supplied to the Indian Air Force. Certain advanced features such as electronic counter-counter measures have been added to these missiles.”
The missile can also target aircrafts, unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters and other aircrafts due to its slanted launching. “The country is also planning to export these missiles,” he revealed.
The Sammelan and Expo 2015 which is being held in Goa for the first time from February 5 to 8 will be inaugurated by Governor Mridula Sinha, in presence of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Brahmos missiles, the Remotely Operated Vehicle designed by DRDO’s Pune laboratory, which can defuse the Improvised Explosive Devices; Bomb Disposal Robot, Arjun battle tank, Bharani-Ashlesha 3D radars, Mangalyan-Chandrayan models, PSLV-GSLV launch vehicles are also on display besides innovations such as climbing wheel chair, etc.
